Terrible design
· Review provided by us.govee.com · April 17, 2024
I’ve loved all my Govee lights until this one.

Besides the very low pixel density, the 20 and 30 meter kits are set up terribly. After the initial strip there is a non cuttable, and thick 8” connector cable. The beginning of the next strip also has the 8” cable. There are no extended jumper wires or any sort of splitting option. If they are planning on you using it for one continuous run there should not be that much wire between the strips. It’s impossible to hide 16” of large black cable that needs to be looped back around to make the two strips close together. And for my use I wanted three parallel strips 6’ apart. So instead of just offering an extension cable they make you buy 3 separate strip kits.
Nice improvements on already great previous generation

I've purchased quite a few Govee products and have been very happy with them. They are more robust than other brands, tend to be better thought out, and most importantly, the instructions and app are much better developed (and English-friendly). I own three sets of the previous generation of these outdoor lights (Govee Outdoor LED Strip Lights Waterproof--H6171) and have found this newer "Pro" version to have several improvements...

Improvements over previous generation:
- Connects via wifi, allowing better connection to the app (you don't have to be in just the right spot for Bluetooth connection) and added voice control - this also allows you to connect and control multiple strings at once, rather than each string individually, which is a huge time saver
- Adds white LEDs (previously had to use colors to approximate white, which was tricky) for off-holiday general lighting
- Thicker cable from controller to the light string (the previous one seemed a bit thin for outdoors)

Features that I like, regardless of generation:
- These make for fun and beautiful lights on your house
- Easy to set a timer to turn strings on and off each day
- Very customizable

There are 4 modes: music, color, scene, and DIY
I don't use MUSIC--my lights are there for decoration, not partying, but the options are pretty cool if you're into that.
I mostly use COLOR--I can easily set segments of lights (about 6 inches) to custom colors. It's easy to use this to make the pattern fit the house exactly as I want it. Because these cover the entire front of my house, I usually prefer the lights to be static rather than moving, so as not to disturb my neighbors (or annoy my wife). You can customize brightness, colors, and then save your pattern.
I once in a while use SCENES--these are the stock patterns. Most of them move, so I tend to avoid them, but some are slow enough that I'm okay with it. Although some might be annoying to neighbors, others are slower and more subtle. Most of them are really cool.
DIY is my second go-to setting. Here you can set individual lights, and add motions of various kinds. This is also where scenes you download from the online community will show up.

Set-up:
These come with 3M adhesive on the back, and I recommend using that. Just peel and stick (though clean the surface first). My first string I put up with silicone, having pulled the adhesive off. However, I've found their adhesive was better than what I used. I put these up on the back of the lip on my eaves so that the LEDs point to the wall of the house. These look much better as indirect lighting than direct lighting.

The challenge is the plugs. The transformers are pretty big. I installed a waterproof box under the eave, and ran all of these into the box (see picture). Inside the box is a tri-tap plug that's plugged into an outdoor extension cord that I ran in a seem of the siding to a nearby outlet. Just be sure your box will fit all the transformers. Adding this 4th strip has now allowed met to add lights to the final peak on my front roof that didn't have lights previously.

I've posted several pictures of my set-up (with 3 sets of these lights), though they look far better in real than in the pictures.
RGB On Steroids! Wow!

Each year I add a new elements to my Halloween decor. This year I ordered this Govee RGBIC light strip to bring more color to my outdoor display. This is my first Govee product and all I can say is WOW! There's absolutely nothing else I can add that other reviewers haven't already mentioned. This single strip of lights is now my go-to for all the holidays for which I decorate. The endless color combinations and lighting modes will be useful for many occasions and I'm now sure I will add more Govee RGB lighting as time goes on.

As you can see in the photo, I didn't install them on my roofline, so I can't attest to the adhesive properties. The light strip is literally laying on the ground in front of my courtyard wall and is doing everything I wanted and more. Having this light strip on the ground, the controller and plug are exposed to weather and so I took steps to protect them from precipitation. I would love to add more Govee light strips to the underside of my eaves, but my roofline is very tall. I'm a 68 year-old woman who does not have a death wish, so I'm NOT getting up on my tile roof to install them and I don't know anyone, yet, who is crazy enough to try. Nonetheless, I'm extremely pleased with the lighting effect I'm getting from this light strip. The LEDs are very bright and I'm ecstatic to be able to customize the colors, as needed. I haven't had time yet to explore all the app features that control the light strip but I know I'm going to have a ton of fun doing it. Absolutely fantastic product!!!
The highest quality LED strip I've seen yet!

I can't figure out why these Govee lights look insanely good on my house, and if they use special LED chips or not. But having these shine on the front of my house is like professional lighting installed.

The double stick tape is SUPER strong, and I love that they included the clips too. The clips feel strong and durable, made from high quality plastic. I don't see these getting weathered over time and getting fragile.

Super easy to install, and the power supply is the only tricky part to figure out. I didn't want to leave it fully exposed to the elements, so I got a waterproof electrical box to keep it in. Maybe I'm just being overly cautions, but I just don't want to take a chance with water. Also, the power supply has no issues with dimming or color diluting, which is fantastic.

The controller is easy to use, and even recognizes music if you have any music outside for your holiday display. I'm using several Govee products, and they all sync with music very well.

Lastly, the Govee app is a game changer, and I love finding all different modes and dynamic effects to play with! Fun for hours, and my family loves having them change colors and modes for the seasons.

Thrilled with this light set, very high quality and extremely good designs.
